snowball

I had to take a break from the handquilting
to do this block for my guild. It's called a snowball.
I actually had to go buy fabric for this one, I
haven't done any blue projects so didn't have any
in my stash to pull from. It was fun and easy,
just a lot of squares to put together and trim.

Time to do some hand quilting

Like most everything else I've done regarding quilting, I'm winging it here. I've done my research, I've consulted Mccall's, Good housekeeping, my relatives, other blogs and resources, and I've chosen the method that works for me. I basted the whole sandwich with contrasting thread, up, down across and sideways and am starting to hand quilt from the front with the middle block. I love the way the stitch in the ditch method looks if I do it right. The stitches are hidden from the front and make a nice fluffy pillowy look from the back.

Paper piecing class

I had the opportunity to attend a paper piecing class today that was taught by my guild. I love the precision of that method. The instructor was great, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I learned what a wooden iron is, and how to use an Add a Quarter ruler. I'm so glad I went. I even saw snow flurries outside the window when I got up to iron my block. It was a lovely day.
